* Maybe this friend who made this comment - felt so close to you - that she could say anything and everything. And think -- positive - - this gap makes you unique. Beautiful as your spouse calls it.

Few days ago I made a comment to a friend "you are high maintenance" .... but I was able to make that comment - cause I felt close with the person, and took it for granted that the person would appreciate the openness of expression. Folks in the room may perceive that being rude.

Should our first natural instinct be - to think the other person has a positive intent?

Ah yes, this was a close friend that said it so there was definitely no I’ll will. I was just surprised as I didn’t think that was the most noticeable thing. And in fact I’m glad she said it because it’s good to know the things other people notice about you since you don’t have the same view of your physical self. How did your friend respond to the high maintenance comment? Usually when my close girlfriends and I say that to each other we are able to laugh at ourselves. But I really think it depends on the relationship.
