In the winter of 2020, during the peak of Covid-19, I was searching for a sense of purpose having recently gone through a failed pregnancy. My sister-in-law, Mitali, was exhausted from managing two kids at home through the pandemic. I recognized a need for a creative outlet outside of my day job, and Mitali wanted to refocus on finding meaning through work after having taken a break from corporate life. What followed were long walks in golden gate park and the baylands, and weekend garage sessions where we dived deep into our 5 why’s to get to the root of what really mattered to us. After several brainstorming sessions we found that the common thread across all our ideas was conversation, community and connection.
Over the summer of 2021, we decided to pause as I was traveling to visit my husband’s family in Tunisia and Mitali was busy with summer camps and trips with her kids and in-laws. Instead of meeting and talking every other day, we corresponded over email. Those emails ended up being a good way for us to share our ideas and thoughts with each other. We discussed everything from books and articles to sharing advice about relationships and parenting. By the time we reconnected in person in early September we wondered, "Could it be valuable to share this with friends we know that are pondering similar ideas, asking similar questions?"
That’s how Disco Dialogues came about. Disco dialogues is our experiment at sharing our dialogues with ourselves, with each other and with you. We hope to offer you, our dear readers, lines and ideas from books, poems, articles, and conversations that are influencing our thoughts. Why Disco you ask? For starters, it’s fun and catchy... and everyone can do with a bit of disco in their lives! But more importantly, a disco ball also has multiple tiny surfaces that reflect light in many directions. We hope that the words we share can help shine light in many directions and bring a little reflection or glitter into your life.
So here it is! #DiscoDialogues
Thts nice... I'm also a poet... Can I put up my poems here?
